For those just starting to learn about the proposed Winmore
development, please start with the summary of comments at the top
of the resources page, especially
Nancy Salmon's excellent report on Opposition
to VMU rezoning and CUP for Winmore I.
The first photograph shows Bolin Creek looking west in the
approximate area circled in white on the Winmore Master Plan from January 2003.
The photo was taken during the rains in April 2003.
The third image shows the latest Winmore Master Plan from May 2003
Here are two comparison pages showing during and after flood
photographs: looking at bend in Bolin
Creek and looking down rocky

- From the Herald-Sun, October 27, 2003: Carrboro mayoral challenger raps plan hiking taxes 31% in 5 yrs
In a Monday news conference in a neighborhood off Jones Ferry Road, mayoral write-in candidate Jeff Vanke said he opposes the town's five-year financial plan, which forecasts a 31-percent property tax increase.
...
The town of Carrboro's five-year plan projects a tax rate increase from 68.52 cents to 90 cents per $100 of assessed value by the 2007-08 fiscal year.
- Jacquelyn M. Gist, member of the Carrboro Board of Aldermen, endorses write in candidate Jeff Vanke. From the Independent Online:
On Nov. 4, we will elect a mayor and three members of the board. I strongly support Steve Rose for alderman and write-in candidate Jeff Vanke for mayor.
...
Like many people, when I first learned through the press of Vanke's write-in mayoral campaign I dismissed it as a reactionary novelty act. Nothing could be further from the truth! My conversations with Jeff have shown him to be a very intelligent (Harvard Ph.D.) soft-spoken man with progressive political views. He is a gay rights advocate and opposed the war. Jeff is running because he is concerned that people whose views differ with current board and mayor are often dismissed and their opinions discounted. So am I. Don't write Vanke off--write him in.
